What is fuel modification?
Fuel modification (fire brush clearance) through goat grazing is utilized by various associations and organizations both in the private and public sectors in many areas of California, Arizona, and other drought-prone parts of the western U.S. Our goal is to assist in the management of fire-hazardous zones through fuel modification, thereby addressing an accelerating regional problem that threatens the livelihood and prosperity of many residents of California. Save on time, labor costs, and risks. The benefits of using goats for fire brush clearance are tenfold. Our grazing goats can clear an unbelievable amount of brush and weeds. A well-sized herd can complete a job in a single day that would take two or three times as long with a landscaping crew. In addition, goats are expert mountaineers who will happily graze even the steepest, most challenging hillsides and canyons, taking down weeds, grasses, and brush. They will make short work of any area that can pose serious dangers even to professional landscapers. |
Organically treat eroding soils.
Goats are browsers, as opposed to grazers. Our goats are never fed from a lot. They are free-ranged their whole lives, and due to their varied diet, they are very healthy and their droppings make for very fertile compost. Introducing goat manure to sandy or clay soils provides an organic fertilizer that, over time, naturally rebuilds the topsoil.
We are passionate about goats.
Goats have been beneficial to humanity in many countries throughout the world since time immemorial. They are among the first animals to be domesticated both for their milk and meat. Goat milk can be used as an alternate source of milk for other livestock infants and can be consumed by lactose intolerant people. Goat meat remains the most consumed meat in the world. Due to their resilient immune system, the health benefits that can be derived from the consumption of goat milk and meat are remarkable.
